It is a very interesting temple with a 19th century main building that is notable for the murals and ceiling. The murals are being restored at the moment due to rising saline damp. The 'cloisters' are very peaceful and feature the same Buddhas in niches that are in the main building.
On the day I visited, there seemed to be a bit of a do which was culminating in a big lunch, with the monks and guests at separate tables.
The grounds where also being used for what I took to be pre-wedding photography.
After the temple, I walked down to the Mekong where Vientiane New World is being built.
By way of contrast I immediately afterwards went to the old town for a wander. It seems very restrained on a Saturday with little traffic and afforded a generally very pleasant place to stroll around. On my walk, I visited Chua Bang Long
