I went to visit COPE in the morning. On the way I passed the statue of King
COPE is a facility that makes prosthetics for people injured by the massive amount of unexploded ordinance, a legacy of American bombing of Laos during their intervention in Vietnam. It is a sobering exhibition centre.
After that, I went back and packed and headed off to Hanoi. It was a quick flight and passing through immigration was extremely fast. So fast that the car that was meant to be there to meet me was nowhere to be found. An hour later we made a connection and were on our way to downtown HaNoi. I was struck by the amount of construction work on the way from the airport and the general atmosphere of economic frenzy. Economically, Vietnam looks like a country going places.
The hotel is nice enough and seems good value at $40 a night. With some trepidation I put my card in the ATM and got funds for a nice meal. Afterwards I wandered around the 'walking street' area. It seemed a bit of a misnomer but was teeming with people sitting on the pavements chatting and drinking. A really nice studenty atmosphere.
